The Sealey Challenge Day 29: handholding: 5 kinds, sonic textual engagements by Tracie Morris
I tried to write about this collection days ago and fell far short. I could not just glance and run. I did not know that there is a "talk back" tradition in Black and Indian neighborhoods. History has created this practice so that Black and Indian voices are present. These poems are considered collaborative and not ekphrastic. I believe that is because of the "talk back" cultural tradition and how Tracie Morris engages the works she responds to. I would love someone to tell me more. I know that appropriation is very, very real, but I find that knowledge makes us understand each other, the world, and history better. Perspective is everything. Beautiful.
