Day 7 of the Sealey Challenge: Get Your Ass in the Water and Swim Like Me: African American Narrative Poetry from Oral Traditions by Bruce Jackson (Second Edition)

I want to start with saying that I appreciate but do not appropriate this work. I am in awe and wonder and still feel that it is not my place to comment or to do anything but explain that Get Your Ass in the Water and Swim Like Me educated me. I feel that my education was inadequate because I have never heard of a "toast" in this context. I took many courses in African American literature and never found this crucial part. I am honored to have found the book and the knowledge. The toast is a crucial part of history and poetic history.
